Pompeo: JCPOA Cannot Stop Iran’s Missile Program
U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that the latest missile launch by Iran proved again that the Iran deal cannot stop Iran’s missile program.
On Thursday, Pompeo wrote in his Twitter account: “Iran’s latest missile launch again proves the Iran deal is doing nothing to stop Iran’s missile program. Iran is defying the UN Security Council as it advances its ballistic missile capabilities. We must restore tougher international restrictions to deter Iran’s missile program.”
According to the 2231 UNSC Resolution, Iran is supposed to stop any ballistic missile program and testing for eight years.
On Thursday, Iran announced that they have launched another satellite into space. The same day, IRGC aerospace forces revealed “Dezful” ballistic missile in one of its secret underground bases. According to IRGC, Dezful has a range of 1000 Km with solid fuel.
Dezful ballistic missile is a more developed version of Zolfaghar missile which was tested earlier. In 2018, IRGC claimed that they had targeted ISIS locations in East of Syria with six missiles from Kermanshah province.
On Tuesday, European countries issued a statement expressing serious concerns about the expansion of Iran’s missile program.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly announced that it is not willing to negotiate on the missile program.
