Pompeo: Sanctions Are Aimed at the Regime, Not the Iranian People

Mike Pompeo, the American Secretary of State said that the United States’ sanctions target the Islamic Republic regime and not the Iranian people.

On his Twitter account on Sunday, November 4th, as the second round of sanctions go into effect, Pompeo wrote:

"On November 5, we will place tough sanctions on Iran’s ruling regime. Our aim is to compel Iran to abandon its destructive activities. The sanctions will target the regime, not the people who have suffered the pain of their government’s mismanagement, theft, and brutality.”

The first round of sanctions began in the early Summer of 2018. The second round of sanctions is aimed at the Islamic Republic’s oil and gas export.

Last month, Brian Hook, the chairman of Iran Action Group, said that the goal of the sanctions is not to impact humanitarian areas like food and drugs, and the Islamic Republic authorities are feeding false information to the people.
