Richard Ratcliffe continues hunger strike outside Iranian embassy
Richard Ratcliffe, husband of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian citizen incarcerated in Iran, continues his hunger strike outside the Iranian embassy in London for the fourth day.
As he was starting his hunger strike on Saturday, Richard Ratcliffe told the reporters that he is going on hunger strike in solidarity with his wife Nazanin who has also gone on hunger strike in prison “in protest to her continued unjust incarceration”.
A group of supporters have also joined Richard in his hunger strike.
On Monday, the embassy created some obstacles on the sidewalk due to “painting of the fences and washing the walls of the embassy”.
Ratcliffe has set up a tent on the sidewalk outside the embassy along with his mother and friends.
Both Nazanin and her husband refuse to eat and only drink water.
Their goal is “Nazanin’s immediate and unconditional release from prison” to join her family in the UK”.
Nazanin traveled to Iran in March of 2016 with her 2-year-old daughter to visit her family. She was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence in the airport on her way back.
The aid worker was charged with espionage under the guise of teaching journalism.
It is rumored that Iran wants 400 million pounds for her release, which is Britain’s debt to the previous regime of Iran.
