Rocket Attack Near U.S Embassy in Baghdad
A Katyusha rocket was fired at an area near the American embassy in Baghdad’s green zone.
The Iraqi army has also issued a statement confirming the attack in the Green Zone of Baghdad, less than a mile away from the American embassy.
The Green Zone is a heavily fortified area in Baghdad. Government buildings, Iraq’s parliament, and many embassies, including the American embassy, are inside the Green Zone.
Baghdad police have announced that no damage has been done to the American embassy and that they are investigating to find the culprits and the location where the rocket was fired.
According to France News Agency, initial investigations suggest that the missile was shot from an open area in the south of the capital.
Katyusha missiles are very cheap and can be easily installed on normal trucks.
The United States had previously warned about the increased activities of Iranian-backed militia in Iraq.
The explosion near the American embassy is taking place only three days after the United States evacuated its non-essential employees in Baghdad and Erbil.
With the rising tension between Iran and the United States, Bahrain has also asked its citizens to leave Iran and Iraq immediately. Also, Germany and the Netherlands have stopped their military training in Iraq.
No group or organization has officially accepted responsibility for this attack yet.
