Rouhani: Trump Regretted Threatening Iran Two Hours Later
While referring to President Trump’s recent position, President Rouhani said: “Those who threaten us on the spur of the moment, regret it less than two hours later.”
In his speech in Urmia, President Rouhani continued: “The White House states that Iranian people must fear our attack, and two hours later, pressure from Pentagon forces the President of the United States to say we don’t want to sanction or attack, and this is because of the power of the Iranian nation.”
President Rouhani is referring to this tweet by the U.S president in which he wrote: “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the end of Iran.” However, hours later, in an interview with Fox News, President Trump emphasized that he doe not want to fight but will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic also responded to Trump via a tweet: “President Trump hopes to achieve what Alexander, Genghis & other aggressors failed to do. Iranians have stood tall for millennia while aggressors all gone.”
President Rouhani also confessed that U.S sanctions have impacted Iran’s economy, and added: “Of course the enemy’s ploy has put pressure on our people, but it will not break this nation.”
On Monday, President Rouhani compared the current conditions of Iran to the Iran-Iraq war and asked for more authority.
