Singer Tataloo was detained in Turkey by Iran’s request
Iranian singer Amir-Hossein Maghsoudlou, with the stage name “Tataloo”, was arrested by the Turkish police by the request of the Iranian police, and Iranian police officials say that his extradition is in progress.
The spokesman for Iran’s police, Ahmad Nourian, told the reporters on Tuesday: “Due to the legal case against Tataloo in Iran, Interpol was alerted, and he was arrested in Turkey.”
Tataloo has confirmed his arrest via a post on Instagram, reporting that the Turkish police have told him that the government of Iran is after him.
Iranian media have reported that he is charged with blasphemy for insulting Shia religious figures in one of his concerts.
Last year, the former spokesman for the judiciary had announced that a case has been opened for Tataloo for his comments while living abroad.
Amir Tataloo began his career in 2004 by publishing his music on a weblog.
He was once arrested in 2013 by the morality police and was released a few days later.
After that, he began cooperating with the government during the nuclear talks and even release a music video on the deck of an Iranian navy ship in the Persian Gulf for the song “The Persian Gulf is our right”.
He was once again arrested in 2016 for “promoting corruption and prostitution to youth”.
In the 2017 presidential elections, he supported the ultra-conservative candidate Ebrahim Raisi, the current chief of Judiciary.
