Trump: I’m open to meet with Rouhani under the right circumstances
During his joint press conference with President Macron, President Trump announced that he is open to meet with President Rouhani under the right circumstances.
Iran was the topic of a big part of the press conference. President Macron said that inviting Zarif to France during the G7 summit was his idea, but he had informed President Trump of his intention before inviting Zarif.
Macron also announced that in his phone conversation with President Rouhani, he has invited him to meet with President Trump. He expressed his hope that Trump and Rouhani will meet in the upcoming weeks.
The president of France also emphasized that he agrees with President Trump on preventing the Islamic Republic from accessing nuclear weapons and destabilizing the region.
President Macron added that in return from stability and security, Iran will receive economic benefits.
President Trump, however, repeated that Iran’s economy is much worse than when he became president, and the United States will not give any money to Iran. But he did say that a significant number of countries are willing to create a credit line for Iran if an agreement is reached.
President Trump criticized the Obama administration for the problems with the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), including the fact that it was a short-term agreement.
President Trump also stated that he has a good feeling about a new agreement with Iran, and once again stated that the United States has no plan for a change in the leadership of Iran.
