UAE: Iran must return to the negotiation table
UAE urged Iran to return to the negotiation table with world powers and its Persian Gulf neighbors in order to de-escalate tensions in the region and save its economy.
"Further escalation at this point serves no one, and we strongly believe that there is room for collective diplomacy to succeed," U.A.E. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash told an audience in Abu Dhabi.
Gargash warned against the wrong choice between the two options of war and a flawed nuclear agreement.
Gargash stated that the new negotiations with Iran must not be limited to the nuclear topic, but it must lift the concerns regarding Iran’s missile program and its interventions in some countries of the region through its proxy militia groups.
The UAE considered Iran a destabilizing force in the region and has supported President Trump’s campaign of maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic, but it also has been calling for de-escalation in the region.
Gargash continued: “In my opinion, we can find a path for an agreement with Iran, and all sides will soon be ready to tread that path. It’s a long journey and requires patience and courage.”
He said the international community, especially the United States and EU countries and the countries of the region must move in that direction.
Last week Iran announced its fourth step in reducing compliance with its commitments to the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action by injecting uranium gas into its IR-6 centrifuges.
The United States hopes that increasing sanctions on Iran will bring the Islamic Republic officials to the negotiation table, but the Iranian officials demand all the sanctions be lifted before negotiations.
