The United Nations Security Council will meet behind closed doors on Thursday to discuss Turkey’s attack on Syrian Kurds in the northeast of Syria.

The French minister of European affairs said on Wednesday that France, Britain, and Germany have requested a UN Security Council meeting to discuss Turkey’s attack on the northeast of Syria.

She added that the three countries are preparing a joint statement to “strongly condemn” Turkey’s attack.

According to the diplomats, the meeting on Thursday is convening due to the request from France, Germany, Britain, Belgium, and Poland.

However, the Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that Turkey’s military operations must be appropriate and calculated. He told the reporters that Ankara has “legitimate security concerns” and has informed NATO about its attack on Syria beforehand.

Stoltenberg added: “It is very important to avoid actions that could further destabilize the region, escalate the tensions, and cause more human suffering.”

Meanwhile, the Syrian Democratic Forces led by Kurds say the initial reports indicate the airstrikes by Turkey have led to civilian deaths.

Nasrin Abdollah, the commander of female defense units told Iran International that during the Turkish army’s airstrikes on the northeast of Syria, two civilians have been killed and injured.

According to the Syrian Defense Forces, the Turkish air force has bombarded military and civilian positions in Sar Kani and Tell Abiad.
