US sends more troops and weapons to Saudi Arabia

Pentagon announced that the US is sending more troops and military equipment to Saudi Arabia in order to increase the country’s defensive capabilities in the wake of Iran’s attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

The spokesperson for the Pentagon said that the equipment includes air defense weapons and fighter planes.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that he has ordered the deployment of squadrons, a Patriot missile defense system, and a THAAD anti-ballistic missile system.

The statement goes on to say that 3000 more soldiers will be deployed.

It is yet unclear whether the soldiers that are being deployed to Saudi Arabia will be replacing the soldiers that are being brought back from the region in the upcoming weeks or not.

Washington calls the plan to send troops and equipment after the attack on Saudi oil facilities a “defensive move.”

Shortly after the release of the statement, Mark Esper attended a press conference in which he once again reiterated that the United States does not want a war with Iran but will remain capable to respond to any threats.

Esper once again blamed Iran for the attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities and said the United States is committed to supporting its allies and he asked the European partners of the United States to join Washington.

The Iran-backed Houthis of Yemen claimed responsibility for the attacks on Aramco facilities, but the US, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Britain, and France have blamed Iran for the attacks.

Esper also called on Turkey to end its attacks against the Kurdish forces in northeast Syria. He said Washington has not abandoned the Kurds and it has warned Turkey to end the attacks but has not received an answer from Ankara so far.
