U.S Warns Asia About Iran’s Tactics to Evade Sanctions
The United States asked Asian countries to be vigilant about Iran’s tactics to evade sanctions.
On her trip to Singapore, Sigal Mandelker, deputy of terrorism and financial affairs at the U.S treasury told the reporters that the United States has put severe pressure on Iran. She added: “These countries need to have a clear understanding of Iran’s various measures to trick the international community to sell oil.”
She described the reason for her trip as putting more pressure on Iran and said: “During last week we took measures against Iranian scientists, companies, and individuals who had a role in Iranian regime’s nuclear program. Measures were also taken against a network of companies located in UAE and Turkey who were involved in violating the U.S oil sanctions against Iran.”
She is referring to the recent action by the U.S Treasury to add the names of 25 individuals and institutions on the list of sanctions. According to Reuters, this network is accused of transferring hundreds of millions of dollars to IRGC through shell corporations.
While the White House is trying to put maximum pressure on Iran, in Asia, South Korea, India, and Japan are hoping to get an extension on their sanction exemption waivers which will expire in 40 days.
Brian Hook, the chairman of Iran Action Group told Voice of America on Wednesday that U.S policy is not to issue any more waivers.
