Khatami: If Reforms Fail, Society Will Want Regime Change
Mohammad Khatami, the former president of the Islamic Republic, warned about regime change and said if the society realizes that reform is useless, “it will lean towards those who seek regime change.”
In his speech which was published in Khatami Media Telegram channel, he emphasized once again that the reformists believe in the Islamic Republic regime and the Islamic revolution, and they want to reform the regime from within.
Khatami also issued a warning that “if the regime insists on the current mistakes, criticisms will turn into protests and the fate of the country will be unclear.”
In his previous speech in the Summer, Khatami apologized to “the people” and said, “we could have served you better”. In September he said: “When the society is unhappy and feels unheard and its needs and demands aren’t met, and all the channels of dialogue and criticism and legal action are blocked, you will automatically have a coup or a revolution.”
