Rouhani: Violators of JCPOA must compensate for the damages
President Rouhani says those who violated the Iran nuclear deal must accept their responsibility and compensate his country for the damages they have caused. He emphasized that changing the tone or words will not result in anything.
On Wednesday, June 5, in a meeting with the ambassadors of Islamic countries, President Rouhani said: “If they accept their responsibility and bow down in front of the law and compensate for the damages they have caused, only then they might face different conditions to solve the problems ahead, otherwise changing the tone or words will not accomplish anything.”
Rouhani is referring to the recent comments made by American officials regarding their willingness to negotiate.
American officials have stated that they are not seeking regime change in Iran. In his most recent comments, president Trump said expressed his willingness to negotiate with the Islamic Republic, and said that he does not want to use military action against Iran.
President Rouhani continued: “If after one year of strategic patience, we reduce our compliance with the JCPOA, nobody can blame us.”
Recently, the Islamic Republic officials have talked about less compliance with their commitments to the JCPOA. A few weeks ago, Iran issued an ultimatum of 60 days to the European countries to comply with their commitments.
