Zarif: Europe is not in the position to criticize Iran

On Sunday, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic said: “Europeans are not in the position to criticize Iran.”

Visiting a school in Tehran, Zarif stated: “The duty of the Europeans as members of the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal) is to normalize economic trade for Iran just as the JCPOA and the 2231 UNSC resolution have stated. They must answer, how much have they normalized it? What matters in JCPOA is not actions, but results. Europeans should tell us, what were their results? They say we tried but it didn’t work. We say try and make it work.”

Zarif continued: “Europeans are not in the position to criticize Iran.” He added: “Even in areas that have nothing to do with the JCPOA, the European policies in the region has caused us nothing but loss. Some countries like Germany stopped selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, and some didn’t.”

The foreign minister of Germany, Heiko Maas, is visiting Iran on Monday after his visits to Jordan, Iraq, and UAE. He is going to meet with Zarif and talk about “the necessity of complying with the JCPOA.”
