Denmark Recalls Its Ambassador to Iran, Pushes for Sanctions
Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Anders Samuelsen said on Tuesday that he has recalled the Danish ambassador to Iran, and that they will push for fresh EU-wide sanctions against the Islamic Republic following an alleged attempted attack by an Iranian intelligence agent in Denmark.
The Danish Intelligence service announced on Tuesday, October 30, that they have arrested a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent as the suspect of a foiled attack against an Islamic Republic dissident group on Danish soil.
According to the Swedish security police, the suspect was arrested on October 21st in Sweden and extradited to Denmark in connection to this failed plot.
The chief of Denmark’s security services said on Monday’s press conference that the attack was aimed at the leader of an Arab separatist group. He continued: “We are facing a plan by the Islamic Republic Intelligence Service for an attack on Danish soil. We cannot and will not accept this.”
In response, Bahram Ghasemi, the spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s ministry of foreign affairs said: “This is another conspiracy and scheme by our known enemies who oppose a good relationship between Iran and Europe.”
The Danish foreign ministry summoned the Islamic Republic’s ambassador to the ministry for a meeting with the political office director of the ministry.
