EU extremely concerned about Iran breaching the nuclear deal
The European Union expressed extreme concern about Iran’s decision to exceed the 3.67 percent uranium enrichment limit set in the nuclear deal.
The EU asked Iran to immediately cease all activities that would violate the country’s commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for EU’s foreign policy said: “We are extremely concerned at Iran’s announcement that it has started uranium enrichment above the limit of 3.67%.”
She continued: “We strongly urge Iran to stop and reverse all activities inconsistent with its commitments … We are in contact with the other JCPOA participants regarding the next steps under the terms of the JCPOA, including a Joint Commission.”
On Sunday, July 7, Iranian officials announced their decision to increase uranium enrichment above the limit of 3.67 percent set by the JCPOA.
Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif Tweeted: “We reserve the right to continue to exercise legal remedies within JCPOA to protect our interests in the face of US economic terrorism. All such steps are reversible only through E3 compliance.”
