Trump’s new sanctions against Iran include Khamenei and Zarif

President Donald Trump says the new sanctions against Iran include the leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

While signing the order for new sanctions, Trump added that the United States does not want a war with Iran and strongly seeks an agreement.

President Trump also praised the Iranian people, saying Iran can have a great future, but the regime of Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

He stated that the supreme leader of Iran is the one ultimately responsible for the hostile conduct of the regime, and the sanctions will target the assets of the leader and his office and people closely affiliated with him.

According to a U.S estimate, the leader of Iran’s wealth is as much as $95 billion, which is “used as a slush fund for the IRGC”.

The U.S Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a press conference after the signing of the order that IRGC financial channels will be blocked by the new sanctions, and this is maximum pressure against the regime of Iran.

Mnuchin also added that the administration plans on adding the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, Mohammad Javad Zarif, to its list of sanctions.

Abbas Gholamshahi, Ramezan Zirahi, Yadollah Badin, Mansour Ravankar, and Ali Ozmaei, all commanders of IRGC Navy have also been added to the list of sanctions.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of IRGC Aerospace force, Alireza Tangsiri, another IRGC Navy commander, and Mohammad Pakpour, the commander in chief of IRGC ground forces have also been included in the new sanctions.
