Trump called off attack on Iran after being told 150 would be killed
President Trump announced on Twitter today that in response to Iran shooting down an American drone in international waters, the military had prepared a response which he stopped ten minutes before its launch due to the number of casualties:
“On Monday they shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone. I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world. Sanctions are biting & more added last night. Iran can NEVER have Nuclear Weapons, not against the USA, and not against the WORLD!”
According to Reuters, two Iranian officials said that the President of the United States has given an ultimatum to Iran through Oman, saying: “The United States does not want war and wants to negotiate.” Iran has a short amount of time to respond to the message.
The officials say that Iran’s initial response was “Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran must decide on it.” They continued: “We have said it clearly that the leader is against any talks, but we will deliver his message to the leader to decide… we have told Omani officials that any attack on Iran will have regional and international consequences.”
