The spokesman for the foreign ministry of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Mousavi, confirmed that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has traveled to France for deliberation.

On Sunday, Mousavi confirmed in a tweet that the foreign minister has traveled to the location of the G7 summit to “continue deliberations on the recent suggestions by the presidents of Iran and France.”

Mousavi rejected the possibility of a meeting or negotiation with the American Delegation.

According to one of President Macron’s staff, Zarif will negotiate with his French counterpart about the necessary conditions to reduce tensions between Iran and Washington.

President Macron also announced that he has no official authority from G7 to send a message to Iran, but will continue negotiations with Tehran in order to reduce tensions.

Previously, a French official had claimed that G7 has given President Macron the authority to negotiate with Iran.

Macron said on Sunday: “We talked about Iran yesterday and we found two common links: No member of G7 wants Iran to have nuclear weapons, and all the members deeply believe in peace and stability in the region.”

Regarding these new efforts for negotiation with Iran, President Trump stated: “I support President Abe because he is talking to Iran… We are also trying to negotiate. But you can’t stop anyone from talking. They can talk if they want to.”

In recent months, with the rising tensions in the middle east, President Macron has been in regular conversation with his Iranian counterpart to deescalate the situations.

President Trump and Boris Johnson also met and talked before the start of the G7 Summit. President Trump once again promised a “great trade deal” between Washington and London when Britain leaves the European Union.
