The spokesman for the government of Iran, Ali Rabiei, confirmed that Saudi Arabia has sent a message to President Rouhani through a third country, calling for a de-escalation of tensions in the region.

Rabie announced on his Monday press conference that the Islamic Republic welcomes this message from Saudi Arabia, “if we see signs of palpable and honest change in their behavior.”

“Our message was clear from the start. We called for a ceasefire in Yemen and we still do,” Rabiei said.

Referring to Iran’s “Hormuz Peace Endeavor,” the government’s spokesman said that countries outside the region will be excluded from this initiative.

He added: “Today, no country can ignore Iran’s offer and join the flawed American plan unless they are not honest about their calls for peace and security.”

Rabiei warned EU against leaving the nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA): “The president reminded the European parties that the US leaving the JCPOA does not justify their failure to keep their promises.” Adding: “Europe’s dependence on the US is their own problem.”

Guardian reported on Friday that the European Union has privately warned Iran that if Tehran takes more steps in violation of the JCPOA, the EU will also start leaving the deal in November.

Regarding the recently rejected bill about designating protest areas in Iran, Rabiei stated: “If we want to have a balanced and moderate society and avoid radicalism, we have to recognize the right to protest.”

Rabiei added: “If people want to have a gathering they should be able to within the confines of the law.”
