Iran on the verge of exceeding the uranium enrichment limit
With Iran’s 10-day ultimatum over, three Iranian diplomats told Reuters that the country still has not reached the maximum limit of uranium enrichment, but if the current level of enrichment continues, Iran will exceed the approved amount under the nuclear deal (JCPOA).
The three diplomats who have remained anonymous told Reuters that on Wednesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency announced that Ira currently possesses 200 kg low-grade enriched uranium which is less than the 202.800 kg amount agreed upon in the JCPOA.
Two diplomats said that Iran is producing 1 kg of enriched uranium a day.
With the current speed of production, Iran will exceed its limit by the end of the week. Iran is to meet with representatives of the JCPOA signatories on Friday in the Austrian capital. The country has postponed the decision to exceed the limit to after the meeting.
Previously, Iran had issued a 10-day ultimatum to the European powers in response to the U.S sanctions, saying Iran will exceed the JCPOA uranium enrichment limit by then.
Kamalvandi emphasized: “after the deadline, the uranium enrichment process will speed up.” He warned the European countries: “The Islamic Republic will not wait for them to act anymore and they must use the remaining time to comply with their commitments.”
